Axiata expects forex gain in April, May
SINGAPORE, June 17 — Mobile phone operator Axiata is expected to post foreign exchange gains in April and May, after its first quarter results were hit by foreign exchange losses, its chief said today.
Axiata’s chief executive officer Datuk Seri Jamaludin Ibrahim told Reuters in an interview that the planned sale of its 84 per cent stake in Indonesian unit PT Excelcomindo Pratama Tbk is on track to be completed this year.
“It will be anytime in the next one or two months for us to agree on that, we are very close,” Jamaludin said.
The state-owned firm is also planning to gradually launch a music-based application service, which will be completed by end of 2010 to boost revenue from non voice services.
Axiata, which owns mobile assets in Indonesia, Sri Lanka and India, saw its first quarter net profit fall by 84 per cent due to foreign exchange loss and weaker performance of its overseas subsidiaries. — Reuters

Idea to consider merging with Spice
Idea Cellular Ltd, India’s fifth largest wireless carrier, said it will consider merging its operations with Spice Communications Ltd, according to a filing to the Bombay Stock Exchange today.
The merger, which follows Idea’s acquisition of a controlling stake in Spice last year, will give Idea access to two new regional markets, said Harit Shah, an analyst at Angel Broking Ltd in Mumbai. Shah has a “reduce” rating on Idea.
Idea, owned by billionaire chairman Kumar Mangalam Birla, in June last year agreed to buy 41 per cent of Spice for 32.4 billion rupees (US$674 million). Axiata Group Bhd, Malaysia’s state-controlled mobile-phone operator, owns 49 per cent of Spice.
Idea fell 1.2 per cent to 79.9 rupees at 11:35 am in Mumbai trading, while Spice gained 0.8 per cent to 70.5 rupees. The benchmark Sensitive Index dropped 0.2 per cent. -- Bloomberg |

近期很多因素看好这两股这次涨势会一路向北，要买进TM＆AXIATA便宜货就趁今天吧，如果你还在等更便宜过了你必定会后悔。 |
