纳吉家人有份的公司股票就起到乱,阿都拉儿子的就没价钱,女婿也拥股不成功。有点学问在里头。Petronas不给工程给Scomi的话,它是值不了多少钱的。 |

Oil and gas sector capex cycle to benefit Scomi
Goldman Sachs: Group well positioned to gain from sector’s growth
PETALING JAYA: Scomi Group Bhd may be a beneficiary of a capital expenditure (capex) cycle in the oil and gas sector, where there is sustained earnings growth for select equipment companies due to high oil prices.
The price of crude has hovered around US$80 per barrel in the last few weeks.
Scomi Group, which has four other listed companies in Singapore and Malaysia, has businesses in oil services and energy logistics. It has a current order book of RM1.6bil.
In a statement, US-based investment bank Goldman Sachs said the exploration and production capex trade was a developing theme and that Scomi Group was among the companies in the sector that would benefit.
It recommended buying the stock at RM2.25 based on sum-of-parts net asset valuation with a potential fair value of between RM2.10 and RM2.20, implying a 45% to 50% upside.
“We believe Scomi Group is uniquely positioned to benefit from the structural growth in the sector. Our analysis suggests the stock is significantly undervalued and valuation does not reflect its competitive positioning in the sector,” Goldman Sachs said, adding that other catalysts included potential mergers and acquisitions in the sector, upward estimate revisions and potential restructuring events.
It said there might be a potential partial listing of the group’s oil field services businesses or even sale of a listed subsidiary. The company had recently restructured its oil services business by selling a stake to Standard Chartered Private Equity and deleveraged its balance sheet.
Goldman Sachs said the oil and gas equipment manufacturer had an attractive valuation of 11.5 times price to earnings for next year with an enterprise value over earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortisation of 7.8 times.
For the year ended Dec 31, 2006, Scomi Group posted a net profit of RM84.5mil on revenue of RM1.57bil |

Scomi Engineering net profit soars 55% to RM10m in third quarter
KUALA LUMPUR: Scomi Engineering Bhd's net profit jumped 55.1% to RM10mil as turnover increased to RM90.3mil for the third quarter ended Sept 30 compared with the previous corresponding quarter.
It attributed the improved profits to better sales mix, and process and cost improvements.
Earnings per share rose to 3.65 sen in the quarter under review.
Scomi Engineering said in a statement yesterday its energy engineering division continued to be main revenue contributor, accounting for RM53.8mil or 59%.
“The improvement was attributed to increased business from the new machine shop in Irian Jaya, Indonesia, and growth of business from the Middle East, China and India as well as the connector business,” it said.
Its logistics engineering division's turnover grew 15.7% to RM34.9mil.
“The increased turnover was derived from the rail maintenance business and sale of special purpose vehicles.
“This is expected to further improve with an anticipated additional contribution from the special purpose vehicles, based on the current orders in hand and work on Putra LRT fleet expansion project,” it added.
The group is seeking opportunities in India, focusing on four cities keen to establish new monorail lines. It is expected to unveil its new monorail system by end November. |

Scomi set for re-rating
With RM1.6bil order book, its earnings are seen robust
PETALING JAYA: Shares in Scomi Group Bhd are likely to see a strong re-rating going forward, on the back of robust earnings growth, burgeoning order book of RM1.6bil and the management's efforts to address the high gearing.
For the second quarter ended June 30, net profit surged 755% to RM171mil compared with RM20mil in the previous corresponding period.
Oilfield services, as well as energy logistics and engineering divisions, contributed significantly to the growth.
SJ Securities said in a report: “We believe the group provides good exposure to the higher exploration and production activities in the oil and gas industry and indirect play on the increased public expenditure to improve public transport under the Ninth Malaysia Plan.”
It noted that Scomi was one of only two integrated drilling fluid and drilling waste management solutions providers in the world.
“According to the US Energy Information Administration, total demand for oil and gas is expected to increase to 53 billion barrels of oil equivalent by 2010. Scomi is well positioned to capitalise on the higher exploration and production spending by oil giants,” SJ Securities said.
Moreover, the group's production-enhancement business is likely to experience strong growth.
The joint venture with US-based National Tank Co last year was anticipated to boost its gas separation business, especially in enhanced oil recovery activities.
TA Securities shared similar views. It noted that besides the buoyant Russian oilfield market, Scomi also had tendered for projects worth RM1.1bil in the Middle East and RM180mil in Nigeria.
Subsidiary Scomi Engineering Sdn Bhd held growth potential stemming from its machine shop expansion and monorail business, TA said, adding that the company was bidding for the Penang monorail project.
Its potential success locally would be a catalyst for winning more projects overseas in countries like Vietnam, Pakistan, India and South Africa, where it had submitted multi-billion ringgit tenders, the brokerage said.
There was also market talk that associate Scomi Marine Bhd might sell its 29% stake in CH Offshore Ltd if the price was right, it said, adding that the proceeds could be used to focus on speciality vessels, like accommodation barges, due to their growing demand and higher margin.
Based on its estimated earnings per share of 14 sen for the year ending Dec 31, 2008 and yesterday's closing price of RM1.46, Scomi was trading at a price/earnings of 10.4 times. |
