During the 1960s, a large part of Singapore was made up of rural villages, and Yishun, then called Nee Soon, was one of them. In the 1980s, the government wanted the piece of land for redevelopment and the villagers residing there were relocated to HDB flats. Till today, some of them have continued to live in Yishun Town. How do these old residents feel about the changing times?
MediaCorp artiste Pan Ling Ling and her father will share golden memories of their village life with us. We have also tracked down Peck Noi Hwoy, a national table tennis player during the 60s who is now residing in Kuching, Malaysia, to tell us how a seemingly unremarkable primary school in Nee Soon managed to produce batches of national table tennis players in the 60s and early 70s.
