Cosco says four shipbuilding contracts made effective

Chinese shipbuilder Cosco Corporation said that four shipbuilding contracts worth a total of US$119.2 million ($145.3 million) have been made effective on Dec 21, 2012.

Cosco (Zhoushan) Shipyard, its Zhoushan unit, had earlier sealed the contracts for the construction of four UT771CDL Platform Supply Vessels (PSVs) with a Hong Kong ship owner.

Delivery of the vessels are expected to start from first half of 2014, Cosco said.

In addition, within six months, the ship owner has an option to declare up to another four contracts for the construction of the same UT771CDL PSVs at the same value of US$119.2 million, it added.

Cosco Corp reported a 10% y-o-y decline in revenue to $3.7 million for its FY2012 ended Dec 31.

The decline was due to a decrease in shipbuilding and dry bulk shipping revenue, despite the growth in revenue from its marine engineering segment.

Earnings declined 24% y-o-y to $105,700, owing to the lower sale value of scrap materials and the lack of the one-off compensation received from its customers in FY2011.

Meanwhile, the company has secured a contract for a semi-submersible tender assist drilling rig from Energy Drilling with an option for an additional unit. The rig is valued at more than US$200 million ($248 million) and is expected to be delivered in June 2015.

CIMB downgrades Cosco Corp. (F83.SG) to Underperform from Neutral after 1Q13 core profit accounted for only 10% of the house's full-year forecast, coming in well below expectations on negative operating leverage and lower other income.

CIMB cuts its target to $0.46 from $0.98 after lowering FY13-15 EPS forecasts by 50%-53% on lower scrap sales and margins.

"Despite the dismal outlook, we believe that Cosco, as a state-owned firm, could be forced to keep its workforce and yards intact to sustain employment rather than making the required cuts to improve operational leverage," CIMB says. "We see no reason to own the stock with its sharp earnings declines and premium valuations."

The stock is down 4.6% at $0.83.

中远投资(新加坡)(COSCO Corp (S))持有51%股权的子公司大连中远船务工程(COSCO (Dalian) Shipyard)赢得价值约5亿人民币的一份合约，涉及为一个中国船主建造一艘拥有2万8,000立方米容量的液化天然气船，并定于1Q15交付。另一方面，中远船厂(Cosco Shipyard)的子公司舟山中远船务工程(COSCO (Zhoushan) Shipyard)在两个星期前同一个马来西亚船主签署合约，涉及建造价值2,300万美元的一艘浮托驳船，并定于4Q13交付。公司在今年首季取得的新订单总值2亿5,400万美元。

启示：公司的首季净利下跌65%，但上述合约将有助公司提高表现。这些合约将进一步巩固公司在中国的地位，其98.1%的销售额是来自中国。

A unit of Cosco Corporation (Singapore) has delivered a bulk carrier of 82,000 dwt DL Dahlia to its Asian buyer.

The bulk carrier measures 229 meters in length of all and 32.26 meters in breadth.

The vessel was officially handed over to the buyer by Cosco (Zhoushan) Shipyard Co., a subsidiary of the company’s 51% owned Cosco Shipyard Group Co., on May 28.

中远投资(新加坡)(COSCO Corporation (Singapore))宣布，其拥有51%股权的子公司，南通中远船务工程从墨西哥的Cotemar S.A. de C.V 取得一份2亿美元的合约，为后者建造一艘在恶劣环境使用的半潜式住宿船。这艘船只将部署在墨西哥湾桑托斯盆地（Santos Basin及北海。这是公司与Cotemar签署的第二份合约。在去年5月，Cotemar以2亿美元订造了同一款式(GustoMSC Ocean500)的半潜式住宿船，也是在南通中远船务工程建造。值得一提的是，新合约的交送期缩短至24个月，而第一份合约的交送期为30个月。截至2013年3月31日，公司的订单约为64亿美元。

启示:公司从Cotemar获得第二份合约意味着其船只设计及建造能符合客户的要求。随着墨西哥国家石油公司Pemex透露为其钻台船队计划添加8至12个岸外平台后，预期公司与其竞争者像吉宝企业(Keppel Corporation)及以斯拉控股将会展开激烈的竞争。

Cosco Corporation (Singapore) said its net profit in the quarter ended June 30 plunged 56% from a year earlier to $12 million.

Cosco Corp, controlled by state-owned China Ocean Shipping (Group) Company, said its net profit for the first half of the year dropped 61% to $21.8 million.

The company’s orderbook stood at US$6.7 billion at the end of June. The excess capacity in the shipping industry, together with the uncertain economic environment may lead to a decline in new ship orders, the company said.

中远投资(新加坡)(COSCO Corp (S))宣布，其间接拥有的数家船厂赢得了总值3亿6,600万美元的订单及潜在总值为2亿美元的期权。这些船厂分别位于广东、大连及中山，它们所获得的订单涉及四艘平台供应船、两艘打捞救助船、两艘模组船(附带增加两张订单的选择权)及四艘干散货船。这些订单定于2014年下半年至2015年之间交付。另外，客户Axis Offshore行使选择权，涉及一艘价值超过2亿美元的半潜式住宿平台，并将由中远船务(启东)海洋工程负责建造。

Cosco Corp (Singapore) said its third quarter net profit fell 61% to $16.4 million from the same period a year earlier due to lower contributions from dry-bulk shipping and shipyard operations.

Net profit attributable to equity holders of the company fell 84.1% on the year to $4.2 million in the third quarter.

Cosco Corp, a subsidiary of China's state-owned maritime conglomerate, China Ocean Shipping (Group) Co, said its profit for the first nine months of the year dropped 68% to $26 million.

The company's order-book stood at $7.2 billion at the end of September, up from $6.7 billion three months earlier.

Cosco Corp shares closed at $0.79, down nearly 12% so far this year, compared with a 1% gain in Singapore's benchmark Straits Times Index.
