Largest Asian low-coster AirAsia plans to start flying to Russia — CEO

SINGAPORE, March 15. /TASS/. The largest Asian low-coster AirAsia plans to start flying to Russia, Chief Executive Officer of the airline Tony Fernandes said on Tuesday.
"AirAsia X [subsidiary of AirAsia — TASS] will be flying to Russia soon," Fernandes said. He did not mention the expected starting dates of flights and their regularity.
"Wait and see", the top manager said.
AirAsia X specializes in medium and long-range passenger flights, mainly to Asian countries and Australia.

Elsewhere, ch-aviation quotes Mauritian Minister of Tourism, Xavier-Luc Duval telling L’Express newspaper that AirAsia X will likely make its African debut from Kuala Lumpur in October this year. “AirAsia X will connect Mauritius to Asia, probably in October,” he was quoted as saying. “The airline will operate four flights per week to KLIA and anticipates bringing in at least 50,000 additional tourists to our island per annum.”

AirAsia X starting October 2016 plans to commence service to Africa, as it files operational schedule for Kuala Lumpur – Mauritius route. Based on the airline’s schedule filing on its website, this service is scheduled 3 times a week, effective 04OCT16.

Proposed operational schedule as follow.

Reservation for this route is expected to open soon.

是直飞， 我猜可能会行使第五自由权 再飞往南非。
这航线不容易赚钱。
没办法 。 东亚及澳洲市场 接近饱和， 竞争激烈。
夏威夷航线久久未批。泰亚航X不批以新航班飞韩国及日本。

另外它十一月也会飞 Medina.

AirAsia X to offer KL-Mauritius direct flights from October 4
KUALA LUMPUR, May 25 — AirAsia X Bhd today announced Mauritius as the latest destination to its growing route network, offering direct flights from Kuala Lumpur three times a week.
        Chief Executive Officer Benyamin Ismail said in line with the announcement, the airline was offering a promotional all-in-fare from as low as RM299 one-way for standard seats and from RM999 one-way for premium flatbeds seats.
        The promotional fares are available for online booking from May 26 to June 5, for travel period from October 4 until May 22 next year.
        “We are sure the announcement of this route with the promotional fare will definitely excite the market, especially here in Malaysia,” he told a press conference after the launch of the latest destination here, today.
        Benyamin said the flight announcement to Mauritius was also perfectly timed as it connected all the points in the company’s vast network across Asia and Australia using the FlyThru service.
        He also said AirAsia X would begin operating flights to Hawaii soon after getting the regulatory approvals from the United States.
        “We’ve done everything on our side...just waiting because the process for approvals often take longer than expected, particularly for an airline group that does not have any prior experience with the US market,” he added.
        Meanwhile, Benjamin was optimistic that AirAsia X would be able to sustain its profitable growth this year.
        “The management is very confident and the aim is to maintain this positive momentum,” he said, adding AirAsia X was optimistic of achieving higher profit by year-end.
        Yesterday, AirAsia X announced a pre-tax profit of RM218.52 million for the first quarter ended March 31, 2016 compared with a pre-tax loss of RM117.28 million a year ago.
        Revenue jumped to RM970.67 million from RM775.37 million, mainly due to the increase in passenger traffic and growth in average base fare. — Bernama
