Yangzijiang Shipbuilding said it secured new shipbuilding orders of four 208,000 dot bulk carriers with options for two identical vessels.

This is on top of the 13 option orders consisting five 82,000 dot bulk carriers, three 64,000 dot bulk carriers and five 10,000TEU containerships signed in Sep.

The total contract value of the 17 new orders is US$871 million.

The 17 new contracts are scheduled for deliveries in years 2015 to 2016, and therefore will not have any significant impact on the earnings of the group for the financial year ending 31 December 2013.

In 3Q2013, the group had secured a total of 25 effective shipbuilding contracts with an aggregate value of US$1.085 billion. Year to date, a total of 52 shipbuilding contracts amounting to US$2.096 billion have come to effect.

As of today, Yangzijiang has a total of 28 options outstanding worth total of US$1.36 billion. Eleven are for containerships worth US$0.85 billion and 17 are for multi-purpose bulk carriers worth US$0.51 billion.

扬子江船厂控股在3Q13赢得总值10亿美元的合约

扬子江船厂控股(Yangzijiang Shipbuilding (Holdings))自今年9月至今合共赢得了25份新合约,并有望进一步提高合约数量,以维持盈利水平。公司在9月宣布取得总值约2亿1,400万元的八份合约,并在这个星期再取得总值约8亿7,100万元的17份合约。这一连串的合约令公司在3Q13的总订单额达到10亿9,000万元。麦格理证券研究(Macquarie Equities Research)表示,公司正逐渐转向建造更大的船只和更高值的产品。麦格理的分析师补充道,在研究过本区域大型船厂的订单后,在几家于2015年交付船只的时间表上仍有空档的船厂当中,扬子江是其中一家。

启示:扬子江的订单来源强劲的部份原因是中国造船业进行整合。麦格理把公司的评级上调至‘表现优于大市’,目标价也从0.85元调高至1.45元,由于其在2013年到目前为止的总订单额为23亿美元。

China's third-largest listed shipbuilder, Yangzijiang Shipbuilding Holdings, said its net profit for the third quarter fell 6% from a year earlier.

The company, based in eastern Jiangsu province, reported a net profit of 820.7 million yuan ($168.23 million) for the three months ended September, down from 877.2 million yuan a year earlier.

Its order book stood at US$3.87 billion ($4.83 billion) at the end of September, compared with $3.24 billion at the end of the previous quarter.

任元林表示:“我们犯了一个错误,今年3月和4月与船东签署了太多的备选订单。”日前扬子江船业公布第三季度净利润下降6%。
   
“我们寻求船东意见,他们要求船舶越早交付船价也就越高,由此调整挤在2015年和2016年交付节点,以减轻这些影响。”
   
在目前,航运业持续六年低迷的背景下,扬子江船业今年新船订单复苏,得益于其是中国几家大型造船厂之一。

China’s third-largest listed shipbuilder Yangzijiang Shipbuilding Holdings is on track this year to win the most new orders since 2007, a feat unlikely to be repeated soon as it has now almost reached full capacity.

Yangzijiang, based in eastern China’s Jiangsu Province, took home new orders worth US$2.1 billion in the first nine months of 2013 and is poised to end the year with US$3 billion worth of new orders, Chairman Ren Yuanlin told reporters.

The strong performance helped build up an outstanding order book worth US$3.9 billion at the end of September, the highest in nearly two years, but that also means the company will have limited capacity for new contracts from now until 2016, Ren said.

Profit margins are also likely to be squeezed as many of these outstanding orders were converted from options booked at prices that were below current market rates by as much as 10%, he added.

"We made a mistake by signing too many options with ship owners in March and April this year," Ren said after the company reported a six% decline in its third-quarter net profit.

"We are asking the ship owners that want early deliveries to pay more, and adjusting our capacity to squeeze in some slots for 2015 and 2016 deliveries, to mitigate the impact."

Yangzijiang is one of the few big yards in China’s shipbuilding sector that have benefited from a revival in ship orders this year, even as the global shipping industry remains troubled for the sixth consecutive year.

Only 4% of China’s more than 1,600 yards have scored new contracts so far this year, pointing to possible consolidation in the bloated sector.

Ren said China’s shipbuilding sector could face lower margins next year due to low prices, and Yangzijiang plans to diversify into a number of businesses, including trading and shipping, to reduce its reliance on ship building segment.

The company aims to reduce ship building’s contribution to revenue to 60% within three years from above 80% now, Ren said.

Orders placed at Chinese yards in the first nine months of the year, in deadweight tonnage terms, jumped 80% from the whole of 2012, but the growth in dollar terms was a far moderate 10%, according to the World Shipyard Monitor published by Clarkson Research.

中国领导层倡议整合造船业,投资者对此表示欢迎,从他们给予扬子江船厂控股(Yangzijiang Shipbuilding (Hldgs))的信心便可见一斑,后者很可能从中国修订的第12个五年计划中受惠。现在就让我们来探讨政治干预对扬子江的未来发展有什么影响。

中国造船业面对十分激烈的竞争。这个受到产能过剩影响的行业近几个月来出现“大地震”,因为多个船坞结束营业,有些则把产能削减。出现这个现象是因为中国政府决心为造船业进行整顿,把规模较小、效率不高的船厂淘汰。首阶段的整合行动令信誉良好的船坞生意大增,国营船坞的造船订单大大提高,原因是顾客对大规模船厂的信心较多,它们通常也会准时交货。

据航运经纪克拉克森(Clarkson)透露,中国大规模船厂今年的表现不错,它们在上半年获得环球订单的39.5%;而韩国船厂则取得36.5%,比去年的颓势相差很远。国营船厂获得的订单则占了其中差不多的四分之三,它们的优势在于较容易在原材料及新船融资方面获得借贷。可是,财力雄厚的私营船厂像扬子江船厂控股也有相当不错的表现,因为它们可以受惠于溢出效应,获得大部分国营船厂放弃争取的新订单。


在国营船厂正在兴建的货柜船

太迟干预

在过去10年,中国领先韩国成为全球首屈一指的造船大国,由于私营船厂纷纷成立,与国营船厂抗衡,况且中国对原材料的渴求十分庞大,助长了船运业的兴旺。可是,环球造船订单至2007年到达巅峰,市场开始出现饱和,而刚好中国的国内生产总值(GDP)增长开始下滑。

政府的干预是否来得有点晚呢?无论如何,中国政府现在已经明白到,管理几间规模庞大、声誉卓著的船厂,让它们可以在国际舞台上有较大的竞争力,总好过去管理一大堆品质参差不齐的船厂好。因此,它已经下定决心把造船业严加管控,包括产能方面,并在8月4日公布了一个3年计划。由于中国拥有太多船厂,业内专家认为,这个行业若要稳定下来,在未来5年内,大约30至50%的中国船坞可能需要结业。扬子江船厂控股的执行主席任元林也有同见,他认为三分之一的船厂在大约5年内如果未能取得订单,恐怕必须关门。他补充:“中国政府在实施重新架构及整合计划下,客户很明显会选择实力较强的船厂,而扬子江所占的市场份额可能会因此提高。”

虽然整合造船业最终会带来怎样的影响还是言之过早,但这确实是走对了方向及可以帮助政府达到其定下的目标:至2015年,中国10大船厂的年产量将占全国总产量的70%。根据去年公布的五年计划,中国希望到时在建造不同类型船只方面,拥有超过50个品牌。克拉克森表示,以这个目标而言,在2011年,国内10大造船厂的年产量占了总产量的48%。

新的希望

在最近公布的业绩里,公司的表现只是一般,3Q13收入上升了1.6%至37亿人民币,主要是受到其投资部门的推动,而不是其核心造船部门。核心毛利维持在22.3%的高位(去年为22.9%),由于新建船只价格提高及建造更高规格的船只。可是,净利下跌6.4%至8亿2,070万人民币,原因是税率提高。以9个月数字来看,公司报收入下跌2.5%,而净利下跌15.3%。

值得一提的是,公司在交送较少船只下(3Q13:8艘;3Q12:9艘),营业额仍得以保持,由于其建造及交送较大型的船只,令确认收入提高。我们预期这个趋势将会持续,因为公司的船坞至2016年拥有较大的产能利用率。随着新订单的数量有限,公司将会把重点放在需要先进技术的船只,这将会提升其能力及让其更具竞争力。

本年迄今, 公司取得67份建造新船订单,总值为26亿美元,让其截至9月30日的未完成订单达到39亿美元(总共88艘船只)。公司也拥有总共30个未有使用的期权,总值15亿美元。


扬子江首次兴建可容纳1万个20英尺标准集装箱的货柜船

展望未来

为减少行业处于低潮时带来的影响,公司向不同领域进军,让股东能取得最大的回报及毛利获得改善。任先生说: “虽然我们不可以完全消除造船业在低潮时带来的冲击,但集团采取了多项措施来巩固盈利及维持其盈利力,以确保股东在行业低潮时受到保护。”

公司的其他业务包括持有至到期的金融资产,截至9月30日大约为125亿人民币,并为3Q13收入带来约10%贡献。集团也投资8亿4,050万人民币于用作产业发展的土地,并向上游的岸外及海事(O&M)领域发展,让其技术能力得以提升及向价值链攀高。其独立建造的升降式钻油台将可以如期在2015年中交送。

公司并没有计划把O&M部门独立发展,而是让其成为核心造船部门的一部分,因为它认为目前进军这个领域风险较高,更糟的是,一些中国船坞愿意接受少过10%的首期付费。华侨银行投资研究认为公司的审慎行事值得一赞。

这家经纪行认同公司在这方面的决定,目前专注于其具竞争力的强项,同时向其他业务支柱发展。因此,它预期公司在2014年会交送更多船只,并把其FY14盈利预测提高。基于9倍FY14盈利,调整后的合理值为1.22元(之前为1.04元)。

总的来说,随着中国造船业复兴,让公司的订单能见度达到1.6倍FY12历来收入,再加上其雄厚的财力、多元化的收入来源及高毛利率,这家中国船厂值得大家注意。公司已出现轻微的复苏迹象,曙光在望。

扬子江船厂控股(Yangzijiang Shipbuilding (Holdings))通过子公司江苏新扬子造船(Jiangsu New Yangzi Shipbuilding)在新加坡注册成立了一家子公司新扬子国际贸易(Newyangzi International Trading)。

新子公司的授权资本为9,980万美元,是扬子江船厂控股的全资子公司。

新子公司的主要业务为国际贸易,包括造船相关材料/用品贸易及商船买卖等等。成立这家子公司的目的是增进公司的营运模式及减低融资成本。

启示:长期而言,扩大自家的贸易平台及善用新加坡发达的资本市场和物流基建,将有助该新子公司通过逐渐拓展至第三方市场来取得额外的收入来源。

最近,扬子江船业(位置 评论 新闻)集团为加拿大西斯班集团制造的两艘万箱级集装箱船(船型 船厂 买卖)正式下水。在去年这一被戏称为造船业“史上最冷年份”,国内一半造船厂深陷“零订单”泥潭,扬子江船业却接单接到手发热。记者日前了解到,企业去年承接船舶订单90艘,总价33亿美元,前十个月更是收获利润26.8亿元,对中国造船业利润的贡献份额达到51.2%。扬子江凭借什么“御寒”成功?集团副总经理缪为群的答案是:开发高端船型破除垄断,以技术优势转化为发展优势。
   
从2009年开始,扬子江船业就开始研发一万标箱的集装箱船,当时8000箱以上的集装箱船,基本被韩国垄断。“我们不甘在中低端的市场上和国内企业竞争,最终还是要向造船强国靠拢。”
“挖来”行业内的高级管理人才和花巨资收购船舶研究设计公司,企业研发高新技术产品有了强有力支撑,历经数年突破,新船型各项性能指标及能效指数均达到或优于国际海事组织制定的最新规范要求。2011年,扬子江船业与世界最大集装箱船出租企业加拿大西斯班集团签订25艘新一代节能环保型万箱级船建造合同,总价值25亿美元,创下了我国造船史上第一大单的纪录,而这一大单的“延后效应”也在持续释放——去年以来,扬子江船业开足了马力,预计该订单今年还有8艘船将交付使用,整个订单将于明年完成。
   
据了解,扬子江船业为西斯班集团建造的万箱级船,具有完全自主知识产权,与其他的万箱级船相比,总箱位增加了10%,但油耗降低了20%,排放指标降低了近20%,营运效率提高了30%,而且满载状态下可自动平衡无需压载水(产品库 求购 供应),营运效率国际领先。在中国船舶工业行业协会会长张广钦看来,这不仅是中国造船行业转型升级的重要标志,更打破了海上霸主韩国多年以来的高端船型垄断格局。

Yangzijiang Shipbuilding Holdings, a top Chinese shipbuilder, plans to build more mega container ships for shipowners eager to cut operating costs.

Yangzijiang is China’s third-largest listed shipbuilder by market capitalisation and has boasted profit margins that dwarf those of domestic and overseas peers.

Yangzijiang is ready to hand over its first mega container ship in March, which can move around 10,000 standard twenty-foot (TEU) containers, and is planning to build vessels that can handle up to 18,000 boxes.

“We want to make container ships our signature product,” said Ren Yuanlin, Yangzijiang’s chairman.

On the company’s outstanding order book of US$4.6 billion, which rose from US$3.9 billion ($4.9 billion) at the end of September last year, 81 bulk carriers take up 55% of the total value while the rest are container ships, company data showed.

The company said to gain access to the megaship market it will likely offer lower prices than those offered by the Korean yards like Hyundai Heavy Industries Co, Samsung Heavy Industries Co and Daewoo Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering Co.

“It is absolutely the path for Yangzijiang,” said Jon Windham, an analyst at Barclays in Hong Kong, referring to the company’s ambition in building larger ships.

Shipping companies have been under pressure to upsize their vessels in order to cut down fuel costs, despite the fact that capacity growth has outpaced demand increase and freight rates remained under pressure.

“There are two choices if you are a container shipping company; you either exit the business or you order bigger ships,” said Windham of Barclays.

In 2013, containers ships with capacities larger than 8,000 TEU dominated new orders globally. Vessels with a combined capacity of 19.2 million deadweight tonnes (DWT) were ordered, up from 2.7 DWT in 2012, according to the World Shipyard Monitor published by Clarkson Research Services.

Yangzijiang said it plans to deliver another eight 10,000 TEU ships, after handing over the first one to shipowner Seaspan Corp next month.

Q4 NET PROFIT FALLS
Yangzijiang’s fourth-quarter net profit dropped 8% as income from shipbuilding decreased.

It reported a fourth-quarter net profit of 746.3 million yuan ($154.42 million) and a full-year net profit of 3.1 billion yuan, slightly higher than Thomson Reuters SmartEstimate of 3.0 billion yuan.

The pre-tax margin for the year stood at 34.5%, up from 32.9% a year earlier, compared with an industry median of 10%, according to Thomson Reuters data.

The company’s shipbuilding business posted a 43% gross margin due to high-margin contracts secured before the global financial crisis. Shipbuilding prices have since slid, and the company had warned investors that profit margins could be squeezed as construction of ships on lower-margin orders took over the yard’s docks.

The company has recently signed a contract to build two semi-submersible drilling rigs for US$825 million with an option for two similar rigs, the second offshore engineering equipment order it has won since the jackup rig order in 2012.

China’s Yangzijiang Shipbuilding Holdings said its net profit in the first quarter rose 11% from a year earlier, as profit growth from its investment business compensated for the slide in shipbuilding earnings.

The company, one of China’s top shipbuilders, reported a net profit of 799.2 million yuan ($160.36 million). Revenue grew 24% to 3.55 billion yuan, Yangzijiang said in a statement.

Yangzijiang pocketed orders worth US$1.07 billion ($1.34 billion) year-to-date, and held an outstanding order book of US$5.19 billion, which will keep the yard fully utilised until the end of 2016, the company also said.

The company’s shipbuilding division contributed a gross profit of 457.0 million yuan, down 29% from a year earlier, while gross profit from its investment business jumped about 50% to 561.5 million yuan.
