Yongnam Holdings says third-quarter net profit fell 38.7% to $10.31 million from $16.83 million a year ago.

The fall came on the back of a 17.1% fall in group revenue to $71.71 million. The group attributes this to the substantial completion of some of its structural steelworks projects at the end of 2011 and slower progress in certain ongoing projects.

As higher-margin projects were completed in FY2011, Yongnam recorded a gross profit of $18.24 million in the three months ended September, which was 30.2% lower than a year ago.

Yongnam Holdings, the structural steel contractor and specialist civil engineering solutions provider, today reported a net profit of $11.5 million for the three months ended March 31, 2013 (1QFY2013), up from $11.4 million from last year (1QFY2012). This was achieved on the back of a 21.8% increase in revenue to $81.9 million, compared to the corresponding quarter of the previous year (1QFY2012).

Ongoing projects like the Singapore Sports Hub, Suntec City Convention Centre and the belt conveyor structure project for the Beumer Group in Malaysia, boosted revenue in the Structural Steelworks segment by an impressive 90.5% to $45.4 million in 1QFY2013.
However, the substantial completion of some of the Marina Coastal Expressway projects at end-FY2012 impacted revenue for the Specialist Civil Engineering segment, which contracted by 15.6% to $36.5 million in 1QFY2013. Major contributors in the quarter included other Marina Coastal Expressway projects, MRT Downtown Lines 2 and 3 and the Hong Kong MTR.

At the costs front, general and administrative expenses for the quarter were reduced by 3.0% to $6.2 million, mainly on lower staff costs. Finance costs were also down by some 7.4% to $0.7 million, on lower bank interests and charges in 1QFY2013. Net gearing was marginally higher at 0.34 times as at March 31, 2013, compared to 0.33 times as at December 31, 2012.

In the quarter under review, earnings per share was maintained at 0.91 cent, as in 1QFY2012. Group net asset value per share strengthened from 25.60 cents at December 31, 2012, to 26.52 cents at March 31, 2013.

Seow Soon Yong, Chief Executive Officer of Yongnam, said, “Buoyed by increased contribution from a number of our Structural Steelworks projects in Singapore and Malaysia, we are pleased that Yongnam has started the year on a strong note, delivering strong topline growth. The changing revenue mix, on lower contribution from our higher-margin Specialist Civil Engineering projects this quarter, coupled with the substantial completion of some higher-margin projects at the end of last year, affected our overall gross profit margin, which remained healthy at 23.8% for the first quarter this year.”

Yongnam says project demand is expected to continue in the year as the company pursues $1.3 billion worth of new infrastructural and commercial projects in Singapore, Hong Kong, Malaysia, India, Indonesia and the Middle East, many of which, if secured, are expected to come on-stream in the second half of FY2013. These pipeline projects are expected to bolster Yongnam’s growing order book, which stood at a healthy $324 million at the end of March.

DBS upgrades Yongnam Holdings (Y02.SG) to Buy from Hold as it believes Yongnam's consortium is a strong contender for Myanmar's airport projects.

"We think Yongnam's consortium stands a good chance of securing the projects given its Singapore and Japan representation. JGC corporation is Japan-based while Yongnam and Changi Airport Group are Singapore-based, all of which are viewed favourably by the Myanmar government."

A win on the Yangon airport project could boost the share price by $0.12, it says. DBS estimates that the construction of the Yangon Airport project could add $10.4 million or $0.06 per share to FY14 forecast earnings.

"Thereafter, the rights to operate the airport for the next 30 years would add another S$0.06 to the stock based on discounted cashflow projection," it says; "Yongnam's current valuations are only in line with peers, and not reflecting Yongnam as a strong contender for project wins in Myanmar.

We are convinced Yongnam stands a good winning chance and thus believe +1 (standard deviation) valuation is achievable." The house has an upwardly revised $0.41 target on the stock.

Yongnam Holdings' wholly owned subsidiary, Yongnam Engineering (HK), has secured two new specialist civil engineering subcontracts worth HK$166 million ($27 million).

In the first subcontract, Yongnam will supply about 2,000 tonnes of steel for the construction of temporary steel bridges between the Central-Wan Chai Bypass Tunnel's North Point Section and Island Eastern Corridor Link. Work is expected to be completed in April next year.

Yongnam will support the main contractor, Chun Wo-CRGL-MBEC Joint Venture, on the project, which is a 4km trunk road running between Central and Causeway Bay in Hong Kong.

In the second subcontract, Yongnam will undertake the design, supply, installation, and subsequent dismantling of 10,000 tonnes of struts at two of Hong Kong Mass Transit Railway stations for the Shatin to Central Link (SCL), namely Sung Wong Toi and To Kwa Wan, including the tunnels and entrances.

The main contractor for the MTR SCL project is Samsung-Hsin Chong Joint Venture. Works for the subcontract is expected to be completed by 2016.

Yongnam Holdings said that the consortium comprising itself, Changi Airport Planners and Engineers (CAPE) and JGC Corporation (JGC), was not successful in its tender bids to design, construct, operate and maintain Yangon International Airport (YIA) and Hanthawaddy International Airport (HIA) and their facilities for a 30-year concession period.

Instead, a consortium led by South Korea's Incheon International Airport Corporation had won the bid, South Korea’s Land Ministry said on Sunday.

Incheon Airport had bid to win the order worth about US$1 billion for the Myanmar airport project as part of a consortium with Kumho Industrial Co, Halla Engineering & Construction Corp, Lotte Engineering & Construction Co and Posco ICT Co, the ministry said in a statement.

The South Korean airport operator plans to complete a construction of Hanthawaddy International Airport near Yangon, Myanmar's old capital and commercial centre, by 2018 and run the airport for up to 50 years.

It will have an annual passenger capacity of 12 million, the ministry said.

The Incheon Airport consortium and Myanmar's Department of Civil Aviation are scheduled to sign a final contract at the end of this year, it said.

Yongnam Holdings said the consortium comprising Changi Airport Planners and Engineers (CAPE), JGC Corporation (JGC) and itself, has received an invitation from the Department of Civil Aviation (DCA) of Myanmar to enter into negotiation on the design, construction, operation and maintenance of Hanthawaddy International Airport (HIA) and its facilities on the basis of a public-private partnership agreement for a 30-year concession period.

Last year on Aug 10, the consortium was named as a backup tenderer for HIA by the tender selection committee of the transport ministry. The consortium had previously submitted a proposal to the DCA for the same project on Feb 8, 2013.

Yongnam says it will keep its shareholders updated when there are further developments to the negotiation with the Myanmar DCA.

Yongnam Engineering & Construction, the wholly-owned subsidiary of Yongnam Holdings, the structural steel contractor and specialist civil engineering solutions provider, says it has secured $54.3 million worth of subcontracts, involving more than 10,000 tonnes of structural steelwork.

In the first subcontract, Takenaka Corporation awarded Yongnam a subcontract for structural steelwork at the upcoming Changi International Airport Terminal 4. The scope of work involves the supply, fabrication, surface treatment, delivery and erection of structural steelworks of the roof structure, certain parts of the internal floors as well as the link bridges, canopies and other appendages of the new airport terminal. Yongnam is expected to commence site works in the third quarter of 2014 and the new airport terminal is expected to be completed in 2017.

For the second subcontract, Samsung C&T Corporation awarded Yongnam the structural steel subcontract in the redevelopment of the UIC Building along Shenton Way, Singapore. This project is a mixed development and comprises a new 23-storey Office Tower and a new 53-storey Residential Tower complete with a seven-storey podium and 2 Basements. Yongnam will supply, fabricate, surface-treat, deliver and erect the steel structure required in the construction of the development’s residential and office towers. The entire redevelopment is expected to be completed in 2017.

荣南工程是新加坡上市公司荣南控股（Yongnam Holdings）的子公司。

根据文告，完成收购活动后，Axis产托会把该土地和产业租回给荣南工程。租约为期15年，每3年可调高租金10%。

另外，后者有选择延长租约额外15年。

负债率将增至39%

根据文告，该公司通过内部资金和银行贷款，向大马Vee Sen产业，收购柔州笨珍乌鲁槽3块占地10.3公顷的土地。

该公司表示，新加坡劳工成本越来越高，完成收购后，工厂大部分运作会迁往大马。

“这能为公司节省生产劳工成本，以及其他员工相关开销，如住宿和交通。”

再者，外劳配额可安排在建筑工地员工，最终能减少在新加坡支付的外劳税。
